10-27/29 check for those on foot, 27 and 29 on a driver, and 28 if the tags are expired or missing etc..Funny thing about gun ownership.even if the MDT has the ability to tell if one is gun owner,as long as youre being legal..who cares?! Be legal, be safe and all is well!

And these can be done at any time without PC?

I had an unpleasant conversation with one of the local (judging by his apparent age) rookies.

I was walking down the sidewalk at about 10:30pm. Nothing in my hands, blue jeans, construction-orange t-shirt, lightweight black leather "bomber" jacket, unzipped.

Squad car approaches from behind and passes me. About the time he passed, I looked away to say "hi" to a couple of employees of the pizza place I frequent. He pulled into the 3rd driveway down into the area between the buildings in a strip mall. Between him and me were two driveways, one leading to the alley behind the pizza place and it's shopping center, and the next leading to the alley behind the shopping center that he turned into.

As I passed the first row of buildings, I saw him parked at the 4th driveway... the exit for the parking lot (figured he was fishing for speeders). I turned to walk through the parking lot (shopping center businesses closed except for a bar and a restaurant in the back). My path was to traverse the parking lot, pass through the breezeway at the back, across the alley, and through the back gate leading into my condo complex... but to the casual observer, I could have been heading for either of the two open businesses.

As soon as he saw that I had turned into the parking lot, he backed up and whipped around through the lot, and pulled up next to me.
      His first statement?

      "You look familiar."

How the heck am I supposed to respond to THAT! It's not a yes/no question, it's not the typical "where are you going where are you coming from" which is what I expected... it wasn't even a question, it was a statement, and then he sat there looking at me waiting for a response!

I've lived here for 16 years, for all I know the guy went to high school with my daughter, but I assume that cops don't stop people to make small talk, and I do my best to avoid making small talk with cops unless know them (I have a few friends who are active and retired LEO).

Never really gave a reason for stopping me, other than finally saying that I looked like someone they were looking for (keep in mind that at the point that he whipped into the parking lot, all he saw was 6'3", white male, black jacket, blue jeans, and a bald head).

He finally asked for ID, and I figured I'd better hand it over, since I wasn't carrying my phone, and had he taken me to the station, my wife would not have answered a landline call from a CID she didn't recognize.
