CHP refused to validate my deer tag???

You related a incident regarding a CHP officer and tho you didn't come right out and bad mouth the leo for his refusal to validate your tag, it seems like your intimating that. I tried to find your question as #1 says, but couldn't.

What is it you are trying to accomplish with your story other than relate an incident about a leo who didn't do what you expected of him.

26. Post Office Station or Branch Manager for deer brought to their post office.

I actually did that. Several years ago my son and I drew party tags for the Tennemaha Elk hunt (Big Pine, Ca.). We both shot elks, so I (LEO) signed my sons tag, and then we went looking for someone to sign mine.
There was a sheriffs car parked on the street (Hwy 395) in front of the so-called sub-station. No deputy in the car, none in the sub-station. The business next door said the sheriff's park the car on 395 in the morning to slow down traffic, and pick it up at midnight. So no cops in town.
I then went to the fire station in town. Nobody there, it's a volunteer fire department. So next stop, Post Office. Ask for the Postmaster. Tell him I can't find anyone else in town to sign my tag, and ask if he would. He goes out to the parking lot with us, signs the tag, and says "lucky guys, I've been trying to draw a elk tag here for 10 years".

My question was why he refused to validate my tag, NOT why you think you need to twist my post. Read the replies several people got it.

I do believe Fire in the Hole nailed it when he posted;
He was new to a rural assignment, not a hunter, had never signed off a deer tag, and uninformed as to his authority to do so.
The officer was young and seemed to have no idea WHAT I was talking about.

As to your statement; a leo who didn't do what you expected of him.
I guess my mistake was thinking this was part of his job. I am required by LAW to have my tag validated at my FIRST opportunity. I mistakenly thought a leo's job was to help me comply with the law???

When my son was 14 he drew a junior buck tag. He shot a nice 4 point buck. On the way home we stopped at a forest service station to have the tag validated.
A gal came out looked at the buck and then asked for my sons drivers license?? He's 14 I said. She said "We were told we had to see a drivers license before we can validate a tag."
I told her that there is no requirement to have a drivers license to hunt and even if there was HE'S 14???
She still didn't get it.
After a phone call and lots of wasted time she accepted his student ID. BUT she did make a call and in the end validated the tag.

I was a fire fighter for a few years at a station located on the main road coming out of a national forest. I validated a lot of tags. Many people came in at dinner time but as a hunter I was more than happy to jump up and do what I believed was my duty.
I also may have wanted to sneak a peek at the "location of kill".

The Buck.


This guy never got out of bed or knew what hit him. That's the exit wound. The shot was 150 yards steep down hill.


This one was 100 yards running straight away. The hill curved just a little to the right. I caught the last rib on his right side, and the bullet broke every rib and stuck in the spine.



Not a bad year. Two shots two four points. I love my new .270.

I still need to help my brother get his.

Your original post DID NOT ASK A QUESTION. It was more in the line of venting. Several LEOs guessed and tried to help you, in spite of the fact that your original post sounded more like complaining about the LEO not doing what you expected him to do.

Retired, a MODERATOR, did not "twist" anything about your original post. I think you owe him an apology because he was trying to keep this thread within the guidelines of this forum, which allows Non-LEOs to ASK QUESTIONS. Your post did not ask a question.

Also, I talked with a F&G officer yesterday, who told me we are allowed to validate tags, but are not required to do so. Since I currently work in an urban area, I haven't encountered this situation in a while. Like 20 years ago was the last time.
