    AB962/SB585 Question for the LEO's

So does anybody know if these ammo restriction laws were to pass how would that affect online ammo sales for leo's? Could we fax in a copy of our creds and still be able to have online ammo sent to our ca-based homes?

obtained identifying the employee as an individual authorized to
conduct the transaction, and authorizing the transaction for the

Even though it looks like LEOs would be exempt, this is still bad legislation that we LEOs need to help defeat.

I have made repeated calls to the governor requesting he veto it. Please do the same.

This Bill needs to go away

I'm not comfortable with this "law" at all. Keeping a list of buyers and ID is not going to be particularly effective. In fact it seems to be more feel good

Case in point... MSM which is used in the horse world as well as the meth world. We own horses and our name showed up on a list of buyers from a well know Equine store and we got run for buying MSM. I know because the Narc Detective that got the list was assigned to a JTTF from my agency and he recognized our names. Crooks are not all stupid and will quickly figure out a way around this...

Secondly as I read what was posted above I need a letter from my Agency approving my purchase of ammo? Uh...no. I do not request a letter to waive the 10 day period since I don't think they need to know what firearms I do or do not purchase. Furthermore my Agency refuses to provide a letter for individual ownership of a "bad black" rifle although many smaller jurisdictions around us do without question. Institutional bias I guess & why does an agency need to know what ammo I want to buy or have a say in it either way?

We already violate parolees and probationers on a regular basis for violations involving ammo possession. We do not need another law that restricts the good folks while it is ignored out of hand by the bad folks. Sorry I don't like this one in any form...

          Just my thoughts.

How come when insane laws like this are proposed, we always hear "it's supported by the Police Officers Assn?"
How come we don't have more police stepping up and saying what they really feel?
You guys are gonna get screwed just like everyone else.

Because we are bound, many by Policy Manuals, to not represent an opinion and an agency at the same time. I just read ours and it's pretty clear.

By posting in a LEO forum, I think that line is skirted too close. I know some of our gun owners are just as pissed as the GP is about the law.

Thank you for being honest. I didn't start this thread but I just wanted to get an opinion about this pending law.
Maybe thats one reason why it I didn't become a cop. I'm very opinionated and I stand up for what I feel is right. I almost got kicked out of my trade as an apprentice because I spoke up. I told them how I felt and told them where they could stick their opinions about me.
They didn't like that too much but I did get respect from the apprenticship board.
I sure hope we can get this shot down, it going to turn good honest people into criminals while doing nothing about crime.
                  Stay safe out there.

Even though most California LEOs might be able to get around it, there are many with law enforcement credentials that don't meet "Sworn Peace Officer" definition but are still required to qualify with their duty weapons. This "exemption" will also not apply to Military. These two "omissions" make it clear that this bill is not intended to do anything other than infringe upon the rights of all Californians to bear arms despite the small bone through to cops.

Of course I'm preaching to the choir.

I'm not sure I buy into the theory of good people turning into criminals but I certainly believe that good people will certainly consider other alternatives about ammo purchases. Does that turn them into a criminal...I guess that opinion is subjective. I do however, completely agree there will be no effective impact on the thug population and their desire to victimize the good people.

I prosecute violent crimes. In my opinion this bill is of no help and I said so in my letter to the governor. Neither the ammuntion bill nor the bill regarding gunshows at the Cow Palace will have any positive effect on crime. They will make it more difficult for responsible citizens to defend themselves. For me that means instead of investigating a lawful shooting and declining to prosecute I might have a homicide case on my docket.

As an argument to our pro-business governor I explained the negative impacts on tax paying businesses. Hopefully there will be some good news by Sunday.
