I am currently doing the modular system through Fresno State at the Academy and am about half way through the second module. I will finish up this module in May and go into level one where for 13 weeks to finish the academy. In the meantime to help me get hired with Fresno PD I applied for a Cadet on position and scored high enough on the written exam to get a spot for the oral board and so on. I have no real worries about the process, but I was wondering if anyone had any advice to help me through the process so I do not get caught off guard by anything.

First, be honest in answering every question. A dishonest answer will get you DQ'd faster than anything.
When asked any questions, take a moment to think about the answer before answering. They want to see that you have given some thought to both the question and answer.
Watch your posture, but don't sit stiff and ramrod straight. They know you will be nervous, that is expected.
If you have not gone on any ride alongs with the dept., try to do so prior to the oral. That may be one of the questions they will ask, plus it shows initiative on your part if you do so.
Good luck. -
As someone who's done a few oral board interviews, I've found that if they offer you water, accept it. Chances are you're going to need it.
My uncle (just retired after 30 years PD) helped me understand how to handle the scenario questions. Once you make a decision, stand by it and back it up with logical reasoning. They might try to get you to change your mind-- don't.sigpicComment
