    CHP psych eval and litmus

This question is for those in the California Highway Patrol:
I have gone through most of the hiring process (written, physical, QAP) and received my last letter a few months ago. The letter stated that I passed the interview and was now on the eligible list. I was informed that I would be receiving my notice soon for the litmus test and psychological evaluation.
How long does this process take? I have now been waiting for a few months and am getting a bit anxious. Should I expect to wait for a few more weeks or months?
Also, any advice would help, as this is the part of the hiring process that scares me the most.

What exactly IS the litmus test? My psych test was a 600 or so question MMPI or whatever the hell it was test, followed by a sit down interview with a shrink for a half hour or so. No problem. He asked about family life, why me and the wife had broken up, and drinking. That was about it.

I dont remember sitting down with a shrink!?!?!?! I think I went straight to the lie-detector test then to backgrounds after the QAP? It was all a blurr. Once you're in, you forget all about how you got there

Dont hold your breath, I know a few people who are in the hiring process and I've heard there is a backlog of applicants. I dont think they have even gotten to those who turned in their personal history packet in march. My brother turned his in in July and has yet to hear from his background investigator.

Be patient, its will be all worth it in the end.

It's going to be a while. I've been waiting 5 months now (PHS- May 2nd) Patience is key because in the end it's all worth it.

Being that academy classes are being reduced there probably is no rush to get backgrounds done. The best thing to do is wait and just make a call to the hiring unit.

Eh, mine wasn't CHP either...we did the VSA instead of poly, and lots of shrink time.

be patient... i applied in october of last year and just had my final part of the my psyc. test where you have an interview with the psycologist... (final step now just waiting to hear if i get an academy date) expect a few months of "not hearing anything" i think the longest gap so far has been between the QAP and backgrounds... theres only so many Background investigators and tons of people applying right now.. (note academy classes are being cut down too...

              good luck!

All I remember is being asked if I ever dreamed of violent sex with an unwilling partner. I had to pause for a moment, scratch my head, and said, "I didn't know ther was any other kind." I was hired on the spor and offered a job in management.

I applied in Oct last year and I have my final psych interview tomorrow. I am looking forward to being done with everything and hopefully getting that letter in the mail to head off to the academy. Just be patient, work out as much as you can. You're a lot farther ahead than lots of fellas.

If you want to really nail the oral test, go in like this, and follow this guy's lead.

Well, it's how I pass my nights these days.

In one interview I was asked if being in Viet Nam had caused any psychological problems.
I answered, "No, I was nuts before I went there."

The process was different when I did it in 04' I took the written and then QAP. Got a score, state put CHP in hiring freeze. Two years later out of the blue I do my physical agility, background, VSA test, and met with a psych all in two months time.

Like the highway patrol song! So what Im hearing is...this process takes forever, so just stop waiting and one day you will get a letter. If for some reason I am not offered an academy date after all the waiting, it will be a serious bummer.

I hope you pass and all, but even if you end up not passing, don't put all your eggs in one basket. An agency will pick you up sooner or later, as long as you have all your ducks in a row.
