I was at the LAPD academy and I needed to use the restroom, I went in to the locker room and In to one of the stalls and holy what do I find wedged in the toilet paper holder... A gun. I contacted an official and told them, we find out that the gun is still loaded, my question is what will happen to the cadet that the gun is issued to?

I remember on the "Academy" TV show that some cadets left a car unlocked and the instructors found 3? cadets guns inside. They held onto the guns and let them sweat a bit, but I don't recall them getting expelled or anything more than a write up and maybe some PT.Jack
Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

He's a goner for sure with a loaded weapon. My brother is in the academy (lasd) right now and they highly stress or actually engrain how substantial it is to always know where your duty weapon is. It's either SAFELY in your holster or SAFELY in your hand. Any other deviations, ESP one where the cadet left a loaded firearm unattended, where someone could have gotten killed or seriously injured, there's definitely no room for 2nd chances. This is one of those situations even if the cadets father was top brass, they'd still kick him out. If he can leave probably the most important tool in your tool belt out and about, definitely tells you alot about how immature and irresponsible that cadet is and I'm sure no police officer or deputy would want a partner like that.Comment

Haha yeah I saw that too...that was more for TV entertainment purposes. My father knows all the drill instructors at Academy. They more than likely always every academy class catch one or two cadets who forget their weapons and make a fool out of them so the whole classes remembers not to mess up like that. But they never get into hardcore trouble because the gun is usually in the car, gun bag, gear bag, locker, etc. BUT NEVER EVER is a weapon just left in the open, unattended, and worst, LOADED. That's a huge difference where as one gun is in a car, a bag, unloaded, and many steps needed in order for it to be a deadly weapons. This other guy just had a loaded Glock or Beretta sitting there where anybody could take it, steal it, etc. All bad marks. That's where this cadet is going to catch major wreck!!Comment

Wow....hey, maybe it was a test......
About 9 years ago at my old agency I worked graveyards and came in to see this duty belt left on the table. I already knew who's it was as she was a pretty arrogant rookie who thought her poop didn't stink and left her crap all over the place.
I promptly disassembled the gun, emptied the mags, removed all pouches from the duty belt and equipment from inside them. Our Admin Sgt's office was locked and had a mail slot just big enough to fit everything through it.
I heard she wasn't happy and neither was the Sgt.

I had something like that happened when I worked for the court system. The Parole Office used to use on of our jury rooms for Parole Revocation (Morrissey) hearings. One time I had to go badly so I went into the juryroom at lunch time to use the tolet. I sat down and to my left was a nice stainless steel loaded revolver. One of the parole officers had left it there when he used the toilet.
I showed the deputy in charge of security for the building and he was a bit upset.
I never did find out what the outcome was, but I bet someone got a good talking to and maybe a suspension.

i am a member of the LAPD band, the band that plays for the graduation of LAPD officers and the reserves. the incident was before our practice time. It looked like a old gun that they would use on the range. i used another stall right next to it and looked at the toilet paper holder and it also looked like people would stick their guns there too. Officer or cadet ether way free gun!Comment
