    How would you feel...

Hypothetical question for all the LEO's...

How would you feel if a family member or friend approached you and asked you to purchase a handgun not on the DOJ list w/the sole intent on purchasing the handgun from you through a FFL?

If you're ok w/the above question then I would ask you this as a follow up...

How would you like to be approached/asked?

    Thanks

I would be inclined to tell them no. If a LEO buys a handgun not on the list, then PPT's it to a friend/family member right after, the transaction will most likely attract the attention of an ATF agent.

Keep in mind, one of the questions on the DROS form is whether you are purchasing the firearm for yourself or someone else. If an LEO buys it then PPT's it right away, the argument arises that the LEO never intended to purchase the handgun for himself. The ATF may look at this as lying on a federal document.

The LEO can always argue that he purchased the handgun but decided he wanted something else and sold it off. Its probably a technicality, but I definitely wouldn't want ATF contacting my department over this type of purchase.

You technically defined a "straw purchase" which is illegal.
What do you expect LEO's to say?

Fixed it for you gunrun45, as I'm sure you meant "straw" purchase, not "stray." The OP might be wondering about that. lol

Don't do it, its not worth the trouble....

Plus its technically illegal now since you've stated the fact of what you potentially want to do with it.

I hear you...never made any inclination that it was what I potentially wanted to do...my original post was a hypothetical

I will never buy a gun for someone else. It is not worth the problem you will face.
