Damn, that sucks what happened to you. Total screwup. You should have opted for an online or phone extension even if you had every intention of paying it before the 5.22 due date. I think they are just trying to screw you royally since the date of check received and cashed are off by a day, they are probably trying to jerk more money out of you by saying funds weren't cleared and blah blah blah. Or maybe that clerk is just a moron. Either way, feel bad for you now that you have to deal with a stupid collection agency too. But whatever it is, just go into court. Forget sending things, they take too long for correspondence. Better to have a court clerk settle everything for you. Be nice and courteous. Being mean and upset won't help at all when dealing with court matters no matter how bad they screwed up.

Lesson learned: try not to procrastinate til the last day before its due and always get an extension no matter what. they help more than they hurt even if you don't use it. and pay for everything online, that way you have official records already in there court system that match your moving violation number and drivers license. much harder to make mistakes. if you pay by mail and there is always chance they didnt get it, usps loses it, or messing up like in your case.

Thanks cmonk518, I appreciate the words of support.
For what it's worth I didn't procrastenate though, I just didn't have the cash available before the date I sent it.

And if someone pays the bail amount before it's due-how ever close to the actual due date-why does that expose them to courthouse extortion ?

      Not cool.

You look the number up in your phone book. Call them and go look I got a notice saying I didn't pay my fine. I did and have the canceled check to prove it. Did you at least write the information on the check in the memo line such as for fine of court case xxxxxxx on it? If not look to see if there is a court case number on the collection notice. But as was already stated do not contact the collections agency.

I can say that the courts mess up stuff like this all the time. My daughter had gotten in trouble had to go through the juvenile courts. She had to do some classes for her sentence. She did them passed got her certificate. Almost a year later we get a you have a warrant mail. I called LIVID...was told the program said she failed. I am like I doubt it I have her certificate in hand. I made a copy had my other half take it in the next day. Found later this program seems to have a habit of doing that not sending in the paperwork.

You've got a great opportunity to stick it to a scum sucking collection agency. Send a letter back, certified with return receipt, demanding VALIDATION of the debt they accuse you of owing. I'd have to look up the specific cases, but its illegal to send a bill to someone for something they don't owe. If they try and validate the debt they've cooked their own goose and you can sue in civil court.
