I'm interested in becoming a Reserve officer with the LAPD. However, I keep reading on the forums that I should do a ride along or two before making any decisions. The rumors I heard though is that ride alongs are tough to get, and that they are backlogged with requests. Is this true? Is there a better way to request a ride along? If I knew a PO personally, would that help? (I don't, just wondering). I really would like to see what it's like to be an officer aside from watching COPS. Any thoughts?

Rather than rely on rumors, contact LAPD and ascertain if you are able to obtain a ride. Be sure to advise them that you are considering becoming a reserve and wanted the experience of some ride alongs to to help make that decision.
That may give you an edge up if they are back logged, over someone just wanting a ride along to just do it.
Good luck. -
There are many PD-s out there, contact a few by phone and inquire if they take ride alongs. Some may request you visit, present your ID prior to scheduling you for a ride along. After riding you will know if that is the route you want to go! Good luck!"Bruen, the Bruen opinion, I believe, discarded the intermediate scrutiny test that I also thought was not very useful; and has, instead, replaced it with a text history and tradition test."
