Having a party at the house

Good to know, I probably would be but if not would it be ok if I wasn't.Comment

Don't take my word for that. Wait for the much wiser Calgunners to share their input before you make any conclusions.
I will say this, if I know I cops are outside my door I would put my gun aside before I open the door.Comment

Doesn't matter if you're drunk. As the owner of the property that is perfectly legal for you to do.God, grant me the serenity

Legally, yes. However, if the person knocking on the door is an officer responding to the noise complaint there may be some problems. If you are engaged in an activity that might generate a police call for service (loud party) then opening the door with an exposed handgun is to me, an issue. You have the legal right to carry concealed and loaded in your own home. Keep it hidden or put away.
The exposed gun has the potential to turn a simple "please turn it down" encounter into something much more. Again, it's legal, but unwise. Depending on an infinite list of variables the conversation may end with a handshake or unholstered weapons.Comment

I have a CCW but what if I decide to open carry while opening the door?Comment

Even though legal, I would highly suggest against having any visible firearm on you when answering the door in your situation. If a LEO was responding to a loud party and had every intention of just giving you a courtesy warning, that could easily change once he/she knocks on the door and first thing he sees is an exposed firearm. Could easily go from easy-going cop to being in a more defensive posture and investigative mode once he sees gun with people drinking.
Much better just to have it concealed...I'm sure since you have a CCW permit and most likely tactical training, that it takes about the same amount of time to unholster whether concealed or not, so your not at that much of a tactical disadvantage.Comment

If the po-po is comming to investigate you at your house for a 415, IMO do not escalate the situation by having a weapon on you."Bruen, the Bruen opinion, I believe, discarded the intermediate scrutiny test that I also thought was not very useful; and has, instead, replaced it with a text history and tradition test." The whole thing sounds like you almost want there to be some sort of confrontation where you can "put the police in their place" so to speak.
It just seems the end result could easily be:
"Hey I'm legal, even with the booze I'm legal and their aint nothin' you can do about it officer! YEAH! FREEEEEEDOM!!!"
And then of course it would deteriorate rapidly from there, possibly with one or more people ending up in the hospital or worse.
I think the real question is what would be your motivation for open carry at a party at your house in the first place? If you feel you must be armed then conceal it.-POLICESTATE,

"People who object to weapons aren't abolishing violence, they're begging for rule by brute force, when the biggest, strongest animals among men were always automatically 'right'. Does this sound wise? Maybe legal, but do you think you might be opening yourself to a bad confrontation with LE? They might be ok, but then they might react badly. You roll the dice these days. How about talking to your neighbors and letting them know you are having a party, and try to respect them too when it gets late and turn it down."Just leave me alone, I know what to do." - Kimi Raikkonen

I feel the same way about gun's and booze like I do car's and booze. They don't mix. I have a gun handy all the time when I am home. If a cop comes to my door, and I know it is a cop, why would I open the door with a gun visible? What would be the point? I am with some of the other poster's. You want to push buttons. When LE responds to a complaint of a party, they are already on guard for drunks. A drunk with a gun? Ya, your asking for trouble. Walking around your house with a gun holstered at a party with other people drinking isn't wise either. If you need a gun at a party your are throwing, maybe you need other friends.I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.Comment

Legal and all, I'm just curious, what kind of party would you be having, that open, and I'm assuming loaded carry would be required...
I'm sure the responding officer would ask the same question...
How would you respond?
