Legally transported handguns in a regular cab truck...

To our State's (and Nation's) Finest, I pose the following question regarding transporting of a handgun: In the eyes of the law and more specifically in compliance with PC 12026(.1, .2), is it preferable that the driver of a regular cab pickup with a lockable toolbox either a) keep a handgun in a locked container behind the driver's seat or b) keep a handgun in the locked toolbox in an unlocked range bag?

I realize that these are not mutually exclusive scenarios but I would like to solicit opinions from the perspective of Law Enforcement. I understand that nothing anybody posts can be construed as legal advice and I will take it as such.

If you can show the container is locked regardless of it's location, I don't think it's a real debate. A locked container is in compliance.

As a street cop, I would prefer it in a place where an occupant would not be able to grasp/open the container easily. And if seen, you would certainly have my attention for the duration of the encounter.

What he said better safe then sorry. Last thing you want is a bunch of bullet holes in you and in your cab
