    SJDC POST ACADEMY

Anyone here know much about their program? I am going to be attending the
fall orientation in November, and the 2010 POST (extended) academy there. So dose anyone here have the GOODS, the BADS? What is your take on it, what should I expect that would be unique to the San Joaquin Delta College POST Academy?

Could you be a little more specific with your questions? I have friends that have been through Delta within the past few years, and a friend of a friend that is going through now.

I graduated from there in 2006. Now is def not really a good time to be going through an academy. The job market sucks to be blunt.

PM me if you have any questions about it. Delta is a good school, I got my accounting AA there also, but I won't publicly say bad things about it.

As competitive as the job market is, isn't now the best time to go through the academy? One with a POST Cert would be a much more viable candidate for a law enforcement position than one without, don't you think? There are agencies that are still hiring but they are being very selective with the candidates. It never hurts to have degrees or certifications in your portfolio. Although the economy is pretty much tanked, ergo the job market, it will pick up again someday and it would be prudent to be prepared for when the floodgates open.

I was thinking the same thing, I was told by the Academy director that should plan on waiting a year or more upon completion of the program. I am prepared to do so if thats what I have to do.
I know its not the best time to be looking, but the 2010 graduation date is over a year away from now. I'm just hoping for myself and others there is a
recovery soon, and we can get some of our out of work LEO's back to it.
i have been told conflicting stories about self-sponsored canidates being picked up by smaller department because it cost too much to send a recruit through. I was told by a SPD officer of whom was just save from the chopping block, not to go through Delta's program. His reason was that most departments do not like to hire from there, strang to me because earlier in the conversation he told me he works with a few guys that went there.

Used to be a great program. I went there in 84 and I know many others that have. Don't know about now because I work as an LEO in Alaska. CA is hurting bad!

Seattle & Tacoma PD are hiring. check out Everett PD as well, here in CA LAPD is actively hiring. Oakland PD has 64 positions from federal money.

I am currently enrolled in the SJDC Academy, All I'll say is that it is a good program, and your instructors are very approachable. If you are holding a full time job while going through the Academy as I am It can be very long and strenuous, but it is worth it. If you have any other questions, PM me.

That would definitely not be true. Delta turns out some solid cadets who usually are solid thinkers. Delta also has a thorough orientation to help prepare cadets for what they'll be going through and what to expect. Its been my observation that Stanislaus Sheriff's academy is a little more concerned about brute strength than academics.

i went through the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Regional Training Center, which is the compressed version of the SJDC but more difficult, graduating earlier this year. IMHO right now is a horrible time to go through. I'm shocked they are still having academy classes go through. The job market is saturated beyond belief. Hearing how many applicants are applying for the same positions compared to how many are hired is insane. over 1000 apps for 4 positions is nuts. I say wait.
I've been lucky before, I'll be lucky again.

That is how it was when I was trying to get on in 1975-1976. Took me a year. If I scored in the top 5, they'd only take 3. If I scored in the top 3, they only took 1, etc.

No, it didn't stop me. IIRC, I tested with about 10 different depts. and was finally hired by LASD in 1976. LAPD contacted me while in the academy for the oral, but I said no thank you. Blue uniforms are so hard to keep the lint off of when in the academy.

I actually thought I'd be hired by San Diego PD in 1975, as I was #11, but they had some major internal problems, didn't hire anyone, fired the chief (that's when Kolander came on) and let the list die after 6 months.
