No offense, but I will not answer legal questions that are not posted exclusively in the LEO Forum. Duplicate threads is just fishing. You are already getting some non-LE opinions in the OT forum. Perhaps one or more of them will provide the correct answer. Good luck.I posted this in the Off Topic area, but I think that this may be a better place. Thanks in advance! -
What's that about?
Not a dupe - and not fishing - just a link. Sorry for trying to get an answer from the experts.
That's just it - I'm looking for answers, not opinions. There are a lot of very knowledgeable people on this forum, but most of 'em are not LE. I just figured after I submitted my OP, that this area would have been a better choice. A cop should know the answer to my question better than the average joe. I guess I'll just keep my civilian butt out of here. Obviously not very welcome.War is when your Government tells you who the enemy is......

As long as "Mr. Smith's" name and badge # are listed directly under Mr. Pina's, they're golden and the ticket is legit.. If they "forgot" to write "Mr. Smith's" name and badge #, your likelihood of beating the ticket will strengthen (slightly), but it will still be tough to beat.
Same thing goes for speed "stings" when there are officers lined up on an on-ramp and a single officer behind them working radar or lidar at oncoming traffic. The Officer working the unit will call out which vehicle, speed, distance and location, and send the next unit after them (even though that unit did not see the violation, another Officer did, and it can be cited as long as the Officer working the device is listed under "arresting/citing party.")Originally posted by DREADNOUGHT78Lol! Similar scenarios are possible from air units as well.Same thing goes for speed "stings" when there are officers lined up on an on-ramp and a single officer behind them working radar or lidar at oncoming traffic. jaymz, you did have two leos answer your question in the original thread. Both Ron-Solo and FLIGHT762 did so and both were correct in their statements.
Below is the VC section that appears to refer to your situation. It comes from 40600, but I only copied the part of it that is germane to your question.
Obviously, in your case, the testimony referred to is coming from Officer Smith.(d) For purposes of this article, a peace officer has reasonable
cause to issue a written notice to appear if, as a result of the
officer's investigation, the officer has evidence, either testimonial
or real, or a combination of testimonial and real, that would be
sufficient to issue a written notice to appear if the officer had
personally witnessed the events investigated.
As to whether or not you did a "California stop" or not, I guess a judge will have to decide that if you fight it.Comment

Thanks for the info. Someone did bring to my attention a second limit line. I don't recall if it is actually still there or not, I'll verify tomorrow. But it looks like I may be guilty of not stopping two times for one red light!
