    Actually, the OP did say that there was no way anyone in the last 15 years anyone else could have taken his pistol. So the statute would be valid. I did indicate he should try and talk with his ex. If she sold it, which is what probably happened he's S.O.L.

    The only problem is he no longer lives in Calif. Agencies outside of Calif don't have access to Calif DROS information. Agencies in other states can check if it's been reported stolen through NCIC if the OP has the serial number, but that's it.

      He would need to report it to whatever agency services his prior California residence. He has to do it in person though.

        Have to agree... if it went missing in LA it may well already have been recovered someplace else and turned into rebar.

        I think you have to chalk it up to a hard lesson learned.
