I have started to work out after several years of injuries. It is not easy to start again at age of almost 50, but I am trying to lose couple of pounds. If I can do it, anyone can do it.

While that is true, I went through with two "old farts" last year, 46 & 47....They did just fine physically, and were actually in the middle of the pack. Before the academy they were not in the best shape to say the least but they did really well!

Gosh, when I posted a comment to this thread, I had to use myself, as that is the only person I know so well. I remained in pretty good shape though out my career. But there is no way I could have made it through the two academies I went through in my early 20's at the age of 40. If you can do it; good on ya! Remember though that the mandatory retirement age for sworn peace officers in CA is 60. So if coming on after 30, you will never be able to reach the 90% retirement of 3% @ 30, if your Dept. has this plan. If coming on at 50+, that's a lot of time, labor, and work for a relatively short career IMHO.

Someone also told me that since I graduated the academy back in 96 that I might only need to do the POST 3 week refresher (no PT) and be good to go as a lateral. I will be looking into that this week as well.

Thanks for all the input guys, I have hope at a new start. Who knows maybe the powers that be decided I needed to sort through some stuff before getting hired. In retrospect, I know if I'd been hired when I was with my first wife, it could have been very bad.

Anyway, thanks very much to all who answered and those who continue to leave feedback.

          Stay safe.

Ron or topgun will correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the age limit, at least for lasd, is 65 and became such when Block was Sheriff. That only applies to those who hired on after that change took effect tho.

IIRC, Block got it changed so he could run for another term/stay in office.

I will never forget when a co-worker explained OLD MAN STRENGTH to me.
We had a older gentleman at our company that could lift, push, move, pry, open, anything..... So we were talking about it one day and he says it is old man strength. I laughed hard, but he was serious as could be. BTW I'm 23,and I mean no disrespect...I give props to TAZ, go for it

I have been running now for a little less than a month and Yep it really sucks!!! lol.

Good to hear that the credit thing isn't as important as it used to be.
