    Glock 17 and Glock 45

Why would anyone choose Glock 45 over Glock 17 ? I can see a point for Glock 19 for off duty , but have a difficulty understanding any advantages if Glocks 45 (?)

There’s enough of an advantage for it to be made and for people to make something similar in different platforms.

What are you saying? That there must be some advantage since it was made? I am just currently why would one pick a G45 over G17

I am saying that there is an advantage. Clearly there is because people buy it and build out their guns in a similar fashion (think P320).

If there’s an advantage for a compact (G19), there’s an advantage to have a full G17 grip with the same sight radius. Any and all compact (G19) benefits are just about the same in a G45.

When the G45 first came out I was still working the range. Our Glock rep brought me one and I compared it to a G17.

The primary concern I had was the difference in muzzle energy. There are trade offs between barrel length and performance. With our duty ammo at the time, I measured muzzle energy from the G17 at 348 ft/lbs and the G45 at 303 ft/lbs. That?s about a 13% decrease. I consider that significant.

When CCW?ing, the nose length (barrel/slide) isn?t the concealment headache. The heel (grip) is. I looked at weight, sight radius, and a myriad of other specs.

I decided the only reason someone would want a G45 is because the gun is different and cool. If someone?s reason is ?I want a G45 just because they?re cool!? I can?t argue with that. But if anyone tries to argue it?s a performance enhancing pistol in any aspect, duty or CCW, I disagree. Reminder?Glock as a company exists to make money.

G17, carried “plain clothes” for LE or civilian ccw in AIWB carry is uncomfortable in a seated position.

Wheras the 45 (or 19x) has the same bullet capacity (17 or 19 rnd magazine) as a G17 yet in a seated position, is much more comfortable to carry. The shorter slide doesn’t gouge the “boiler” as bad.

I have a 19X (same as the 45 except color). I happen to like the 19's recoil characteristics over the 17; the 19X/45 gives a full size grip with a slide that gives me the feel of the 19.
I'm retired. That's right, retired. I don't want to hear about the cop who stopped you today or how you didn't think you should get a ticket. That just makes me grumpy!

45 is faster and handles better then a 19 because of the full size grip, plus you get 2 more rounds. A full size grip is always better then a compact grip, when actually firing the gun.

Faster? What do you mean by that? Slide cyclic speed? Drawing from a holster?

Drawing and running the gun, follow up shots, the ability to shoot the gun fast and accurately.

There?s a reason top-shelf competitive shooters aren?t running G45?s or 19x?s. Kinda negates the faster and more accurate claims.

True. Glock 45 is a compact G17 or G19 with full grip. Definitely nice , useful gun. But Basically, just another variation of Glock in 9mm.

Details matter I was speaking about the 45 compared to the 19 only. Not competitive shooting or other full size Glocks.

I thought the point of the thread was 17 vs 45?
