    motorcycle won't trigger traffic light

How understanding is law enforcement to the fact that a light motorcycle generally will not trigger a left turn signal at a traffic light? If you stop, wait a cycle or two, and then get caught riding through the red, what then?

I can't answer the enforcement question, but can tell you this, if you regularly get caught up by a light that won't trigger for you, call the city traffice division and complain about. I had a couple lights that would not pick me up and I'd sit until another car pulled up behind me. I called the city and told them which intersection is was, and which lane I had the problem with, and they went out and adjusted the sensitivity so it picked up motorcycles better.

21800. (d) (1) The driver of any vehicle approaching an intersection which has official traffic control signals that are inoperative shall stop at the intersection, and may proceed with caution when it is safe to do so. This subparagraph shall apply to traffic control signals that become inoperative because of battery failure.
I'm retired. That's right, retired. I don't want to hear about the cop who stopped you today or how you didn't think you should get a ticket. That just makes me grumpy!

Affix a large magnet to the bottom of your frame. Some companies sell these devices to "trigger lights", but it's just the mass of metal w/ magnetism that does the trick.

I got caught at a light like that then ended up making an unauthorized u turn. I told the officer why i did it and he gave me a warning.

I heard the bike magnet works.
If you're stuck, you can try shifting your bike into neutral and lowering your kick stand on to the sensor.

Many of us ride bikes and are completely aware of the problem. Most that don't ride bikes are also aware of the problem. My guess is, as long as you politely explain the circumstances most would give you the warning and be done with it. You just need to be careful and make sure as you cross through the intersection you are not a hazard to others.

I've had this issue on my crotch rocket as well. I've stopped riders for it and they've said the same thing. My only response was the dirty looks and yelling out the window as to why I should stop the rider for running a red light prompted me to make the stop, comment on the bike and tell that rider to have a nice day.

Sometimes turning the bike off and restarting it will trigger the light. The magnetic field created by the starter as it engages is sometimes strong enough to trigger the deeper set traffic loops.

The actual technical name for these thingys is a "Loop." Sensor is probably more descriptive. But having said that, I can not give any better advice than has already been provided on this thread.

I ride a dualsport and the best and only way to trigger the lights are to position yourself and the bike on the outside of the loop. If you can see the circle put your frame right above the left or right line ,so your front tire is to the left or right of circle. Works for me everytime. Good luck. check out this link http://www.thumpertalk.com/forum/sho...ight=stoplight Hope this helps.

Just make a right turn, which is allowed after a complete stop. Then make a quick "U" turn where legal and then another right turn and your back on your way.
