I eriously think you are confused about LE use of rifles. They are typically of two types AR or mini 14. M96's are nice, but I have never heard of one in use in CA by a LEO agency or officer.

That being said, if a LEO has the proper AW letter in hand they DO NOT purchase it with a bullet button installed. They could buy it as an off list rifle with the BB installed and then later convert it legally (again with a letter) to an AW configuration. Without the letter, the officer may not buy the rifle unless it is set up in a CA legal version such as that with a BB installed and a 10 round mag or a featureless build. I know that river city gun exchange in sacramento sold several of these in a featureless dress with great success.

No LE agency in their right mind would ever allow an officer to carry a rifle equipped with a BB on duty.

It is going to depend on the Department the officer works for. Some departments only specify caliber. Others specify brands or styles. Some (mine) won't issue letters for personal ownership at all.

If the person has a letter from their department, they can purchase it, and register it with DOJ. Once registered, no BB, no 10 round limit.

They look like good rifles, but each department has its own guidelines for authorized weapons. My department, LASD, is very strict about wat we can carry. They are considering allowing individual deputies to purchase rifles at their own expense. If they do, I have already been told that at least initially, only Colt rifles will be approved. I'm sure that any build from a stripped lower will not be allowed due to liability concerns.

Not if they get a letter from their department authorizing its purchase, which allows them to register it with the state as an AW

If they don't get a letter allowing them to register as an AW, yes

For the price, I can get a Colt LE carbine or a S&W M&P-15, which has a more recognized name. Not knocking the weapon, it's just competeing with the 'big boys' in the field.

I've heard that some agency approved the Sig 556, so its not too crazy that some agency might approve this rifle. However, you need to pick an agency that meets your needs such as location/pay/benefits/size of agency, then get hired, then worry about which rifle to get.
