Easy question, are you exempt from the CA requirements and can you have ammo shipped directly to you without background check?

Depends on the vendor.

Some may just have you send a copy of your credentials and it can be shipped directly to you.

Depends. some will want a copy of your credentials, others want a purchase letter, most wont bother and refuse sale to CA.

targetsportsusa will ship direct once you email them a copy of your credentials. they are my go to vendor for hassle free ammo.

FWIW...most out of state ammo companies don't care or want to mess with CA and this is a de-facto prohibition on getting mail order ammo...

Brownells is a PITA. I ordered ammo on 9/4/22. Their policy is that any orders to California, someone will phone you to make arrangements. It took them a week to call me. I missed the call and they left a voice message. When you call back, the system says to leave a message. I've tried twice to get a hold of them. They emailed me to tell me that they need to talk to me about my order. I replied back to the email to advise them that I have tried and cannot reach anyone. They sent me a response saying "we didn’t receive a call back after our first attempt to reach you", which is false. I left a voice msg per their recording. The email, told me to call the number (again). I called for the 3rd time and left another voice message.

Can we get this stupid law repealed so that all law-abiding Americans can make a simple ammo purchase???

I just stick with Rogers and Targetsports. Less options, but they're easy. Several gunbroker sellers know the law well enough to ship to LEO or 03/COE also.

Well, after two weeks of going in circles with Brownells, my LGS put out their new ad on 9/15 and, just my luck, they happen to have a great deal on the .40 I was looking for. So, I just drove over this morning and picked up 1k of .40 for $150 less than I would have paid at Brownell's for the exact same boxes. Plus, I supported my LGS. Plus, I drove home with it immediately. I had to do the stupid ammo background check song and dance number; but, in and out 10,000x faster than Brownells customer service.
