I had the pleasure (not so much a pleasure after actually doing it!) of working at the Superbowl all day Sunday. It's amazing, but the images shown on TV are quite different than what is actually going on at the game, especially in the area around the stadium.
I was working around the perimeter of SoFi, and by halftime, the neighborhood people and sports-fans without tickets started congregating and LASD brought in massed of officers in full riot gear. By the end of the game, they had brought in multiple, large, heavy trunks, all of them outfitted in what appeared to be different crowd control/suppression capacities.
There were several flat-beds or pickups with a half-dozen officers or more standing on the bed with AR style weapons. Also brought in was a similar truck with armored shooting pods affixed to the front bumper and up on the bed. There was another truck with a huge high-intensity sound generating device mounted on the bed.
What stumped my though was a similar truck, with armed officers in the bed, that had a huge coil of heavy gauge yellow cordage or cable coiled on the cab of the truck. Looked to be probably a hundred feet or more of this cordage, and I could only image it was some sort of less than lethal crowd control device. I have attached a picture of the truck, and the cable in question can be seen on the cab. Can anybody tell me what this device is?
By the way, I was very happy to be on the law enforcement side of the barricades. It was heartening to be surrounded by some serious protection, and I let the officers know how appreciative I am of their work.
