Where does their authority come from?

          Railroad police

yes, I am a retired R/R cop for the Union Pacific Railroad in California. I
worked in Los Angeles. The area in the videos seen recently in the news is well known to me.
Our retirement is the Federal Railroad Retirement system, similar to S.S. but separate. We do not pay into Social Security. Additionally we can receive an additional retirement from the Railroad. Our authority is covered by being directly appointed by the Governor as a California peace
Officer. We are covered by California P.O.S.T and are a POST certified agency. We have full peace officer authority and powers of arrest.
We make our own arrests, booking into county jails, file out own cases in court.
We also have nationwide federal authority in all states in relation to investigation and law enforcement in crimes related to the Railroad. This
covers a wide range of criminal activities from smuggling to organized hijacking.

I would definitely allot a bunch of money into a RR retirement over a tsp.

So I would have to attend a POST academy despite being an LEO with the Army and the Feds?
Bleh. I don't want to stay in corrections my whole career, but I also don't have 6 months to take off of work.

yes, all Union Pacific police officer must have a California P.O.S.T. certificate. They have taken out of state LEO s but they must be P.O.S.T. certifiable through the POST testing program or the short POST 830 training.
