Have you given any thought into Federal agencies, I believe you can get an age waiver being a veteran.

Youre right, anything between an 0083-1801 job are basically given to veterans. Its still a good stepping stone to get into, especially if they send you to FLETC. Is your friend applying for 1811?

Interesting, considering those two agencies are always hiring. I'm not sure why he would want to leave for those.

Texas DPS is having a recruiting event in Paso Robles and Santa Clara soon might look at that. Good interview and testing experience if nothing else.

This may be a foot in the door for you. I'd wager you'll find departments without an age cap are also higher in crime. After a few years the "kids" get tired of the BS and move to a safer department to increase their chances of getting home to the wife and kiddies.
Glendora PD used to have 3 groups.
Auxiliary that rode along - did vacation checks - minded the desk - etc
Reserve - POST certified - armed - out on their own - basically a full cop but part time.
              Regular - full time.

FBI cap is 36 years old and a BA degree.

When I was working, we had a 55 year old female recruit in the academy. She kicked many young recruits' butts in PT and many other areas. It was the LASD Academy.

Well, I'll say this.. I started as Reserve at 33 with LASD and then changed careers at 36 and moved to Memphis, TN to become a full-time police officer. stayed there 10 years until I came back to CA. Pay was good, but the City screwed our pension and healthcare so I ended up coming back to L.A., not necessarily by choice. I'm now 48 starting over with a major Police Department here in Socal. Ya I'm older than many of my co-workers, but so what... There are a lot of good Departments out of State, but when it comes to tactics and available resources nothing compares to California policing, particularly SoCal. I just try to ignore the politics of the State and live my life on my terms...
