Live Scan for Retired CCW Renewal

Now that we need a Live Scan to renew our retired ccw ID, will it be once a year or every 5 years as now? DOJ charges $69, plus Live Scan fee. Annually will get expensive.

Where did you get the idea that retired LEOs were required to undergo a LiveScan every five years?

In researching this post, I've found agency requirements for Long Beach PD and San Bernardino DA investigators to have such checks done, but haven't found any legal requirement for them to be done.

I'm out of state now, and don't follow California law as closely as I did when working.

LAPD Retirement Unit sent us all an order quoting 25475PC, requiring it. I think it's overkill.

Thanks much for the quick reply. It does look like an "overkill". It also looks like your Retirement Unit folks can't read the statutes.

Here's the full text of PC 25475:

"(a) An honorably retired peace officer who is listed in subdivision (c) of Section 830.5 and authorized to carry a concealed firearm by this article shall meet the training requirements of Section 832 and shall qualify with the firearm at least annually.
        (b) The individual retired peace officer shall be responsible for maintaining eligibility to carry a concealed firearm.
        (c) The Department of Justice shall provide subsequent arrest notification pursuant to Section 11105.2 regarding honorably retired peace officers listed in subdivision (c) of Section 830.5 to the agency from which the officer has retired."

Please note the absence of any requirement for a "Live Scan."

Additionally please note that the section only applies to retired PC 830.5(c) Peace Officers. It is not applicable to retired PC 830.1 peace officers.

I emailed the Retirement Unit and asked them that. Their reply should be interesting.
