So, my agency is finally getting body cams. We're getting the Axon Body 3 and I'm going to be part of the team to help with the rollout, training, etc.

For those that are familiar with the system, one issue I'm seeing before we've even gotten the training from Axon is the mount. We were provided the wing clip, and it doesn't look like it'll hold well, it'll be a pain to put on/off, and it'll tear up our uniform.

It looks pretty good and I've heard so far the camera is best mounted lower on the shirt or even duty belt. Anyone have experience with this mount or any other mount out there? I saw the Axon magnet mount which will help on the uniform aspect, but I could see that getting knocked off relatively easily.

As a side note, my agency just recently started rolling out outer carrier uniforms which would help with the mounting option because there's a small row of MOLLE which helps alleviate some of the mounting options there, but those outer carriers weren't offered to everyone. The majority of officers are still rocking traditional uniforms with a vest underneath. That's a whole other can of worms.

My agency issues 3 mounting options. We have a regular x style magnet, heavy duty magnet mount, and a molle webbing mount for external carriers.

With the magnet mounts I've had very few issues and it's pretty easy to put on. I've only had it knocked of twice during physical altercations.

The molle mount is great and will not fall off at all. I've had no issues with messing up uniforms on any mounts.

I'm perfectly happy with these options. Sorry I don't have pics I can post but maybe I'll take some tomorrow.

My previous agency issued the Axon flex mount and the heavy duty variant (we wore a traditional uniform). Never had issues with them.
I usually wore mine in the middle of my shirt at about the solar plexus level. Everyone’s different and your mileage may vary, but I was pleased with the point of view.

Having gone from an agency with bodycams to one without, I think you’ll enjoy the tool for what it is despite hiccups and growing pains. Allowing a Sam unit the ability to review your footage after you’ve gone 10-10 to squash bogus complaints sure beats taking before and after photos with a DSLR...

When I was working, I wore mine mid shirt level with the provided Axon clip. Other cops wore it on their sam brown with wedge type belt clip that angled it upwards to get the face and hand into the view. One of our own coppers designed that angled belt clip.

Be happy your department is getting the cameras. The cameras usually protect the officer. No joke.

One problem is, if the camera comes loose, it usually lands face down due to the weight. That is a serious problem. It is a known problem, but who knows if anyone has fixed it.

my advice is to do what it takes to make it work. It Protects you.

I'm in the boat of body cams don't bother me. I still do my job and I'm not concerned about having what I do/don't do recorded.

All this thread is about is seeing mounting options that have worked the best for people. I don't think the provided mount is very good so I'm trying to see what people have/have not used and what seems to work a little better.

I'm trying to avoid buying multiple mounts and wasting money. I'm not lamenting over getting body cams. If it came across that way, that wasn't my intention. I volunteered to be part of the team to roll out the body cams and train the rest of patrol; rather than being voluntold.

I use this type https://my.axon.com/buy/ccrz__Produc...21&cclcl=en_US and it's way more sturdy than I expected it to be. I have it attached to my left chest bdu pocket and it's never come loose. The magnet sandwich is very strong and takes a good amount of force to move once attached. I find this position captures my view while driving and has a good perspective when I am interviewing or have my duty weapon drawn down on someone.

The Axon view app works well with the camera and lets you do a live view so you can position the cam and view the recording perspective. Its also quick to label the video in the field right after you clear a call.

The cam footage has already proved itself beneficial helping clear an IA complaint. I also verbally front load info before I arrive on scene to document the steps I've taken requesting additional dispatch notes, calling for less lethal, etc in case something goes sideways.

My agency has the same mount options available. I use the x style magnet. If I'm wearing my external vest, it's somewhat "surrounded" by my pistol mags and radio. I have not had any issues with it coming off during scuffles. When wearing my traditional uniform, it comes off almost every scuffle. Like another poster stated, when wearing a traditional uniform, I put the inside half of the magnet on my vest itself so it doesn't pull down on the shirt. I also sewed on a pouch to my internal vest so the inner magnet is always in the same place and won't fall off.

As far as policy goes, we're required to wear them chest height as close to center as possible. We previously did not have a location requirement, but found that the belt mount height (unless you're 7 ft tall) did not capture people's faces.

Yes I believe this was the one or something very similar to it. I never wore it on my sam brown because I didn't have any room for it. Oh I wore the Axon 1 Body Cam with their clip. After I left I think they went to Axon 2 or 3.
