If you are fully credentialed to carry by your Dept in the performance of your duties under 830.5 PC, then you aren't restricted to the 1 in 30 regulation.

You'll need a letter from your department to approve that.

Just ask the shop if you can pay for it, put it on hold, then DROS it once your 30 days are up. Easy.

No 1 in 30, even without a specific letter, for most LEO's (830.1, 830.2, etc). On or off-roster doesn't matter. Perhaps there may be something specific for DPO's of certain departments (like, say LA County, where most arent' typically armed), but for general LEO's, no.

I spoke with someone at Allstate Police Supply in Pomona and they related a recent situation where a soon-to-be-retired LEO bought 8 off-roster handguns all at once, on one DROS, as he was expecting to retire soon and wanted to get them while he still legally could from the source.

Maybe he was trying to finance his retirement.....

Yes, but my previous comment now needs revision because of the changes brought on with the enactment of AB 2699 that changed PC 32000, particularly for most non-830.1 & .2 LEO's, who can no longer purchase off-rosters except for use as a "service weapon".

Are they implementing 2699 in your area? They are still confused about it in Sacramento.
