Where are you retiring to??

With 12 yrs left, looking for ideas on places to retire. Once some level of normalcy returns, wife and I plan on taking a road trip to look for potential places to call home (outside of California).

Nashville/ eastern Tennessee is on the list, mainly because of mild climates- similar to cali weather minus the humidity.

What are some other destinations you guys are looking at, besides the usually Arizona/Nevada getaways.

Not here.

Just had a fellow LEO retire to Eastern Ten. Bought the house cash. Their no tax on pension thingy is tempting, but I've never been there. Me & wifey are currently eyeballing southern Utah/ northern Arizona. Prescott is quite lovely. Our yearly road trip/vacation is also a scouting trip for retirement locals. 4 years to go & I'm outy.

We've never been either, but it is top of our list of places to visit...

Only 'bad' I'm hearing is bugs and humidity... The latter only being somewhat seasonal and temporary.

Goal is settle on a place before 10 year mark, make huge strides paying off current home, and buying new place before retirement... OT will help rehab, if needed, or pay down principal.

We definitely love Prescott, but seems you cannot get anything decent that is not cookie cutter for under $350K. For that price in TN, I can easily get some acreage OR bigger/nicer home with substantial yard. Plus, it's only a matter of time the state turns BLUE.

We got out in 2015, have loved it ever since. We were able to pay cash for a house that has gone up in value over 150G since we bought it. Places aren't getting cheaper, and we see CA plated veh's here every day. Check the facebook site "leaving CA" and you'll get an idea of the exodus...

I retired 5 years ago and staying here. My wife wants to stay in So Cal. My pension is good enough for So Cal life. Could be better somewhere else, but have no choice now. Maybe in couple of years???

I still have quite a bit of time left.

Currently, unless I have a falling out with family or family wants to move out of state as well, I’ll be here in CA. The only thing I could look at is possibly buying some land/property in NV so that it’s still in decent driving distance back to CA.

Funny part about all this is my wife wants to move! We will see how this all pans out as time goes on and her mother ages, kids marry, grandkids, etc..

Wyoming or Tennessee YES! Spent time in San Antonio and Arizona, never again.
