    Smith Wesspn M&P 2.0. SKU 11989 vs G17 Gen 5

    I been with Glock 17 as a duty gun ( Gen2/3/5) for over 26 years now. Just curious, how would S&W M&P 2.0. 11989 compare to Gen5 G17.

It really depends on whether or not you enjoy shooting an M&P vs Glock. The two guns are both in the same category in terms of being a polymer framed gun. Personally I can shoot m&p's a lot better than I can shoot Glocks and others vice versa. I've qualified to shoot Glocks but as much as I wanted to like them, I could never shoot him as well as I could an M&P. What you need to do is borrow one from a partner and shoot at least a thousand rounds to see whether you enjoy how it feels. The trigger is inherently different in terms of how it filled and brakes. The grip angle is also drastically different and they are both fully ambidextrous so if you're a lefty you're covered. I will say I prefer the M&P 2.0 Factory grip over every Glock grip I've ever held, granted my department does not allow aftermarket stippling. To be brief, you just need to shoot them both side by side.

I've been using a 2.0 for the past ~18 months.

I was qualifying with both my issued g22, and my personal owned, but recently gave back my Glock.

I'm just north of you, in Sonoma co. You are more than welcome to check out my 2.0s.

I’m not a Glock fanboy, but I’m used to shooting it, have shot and owned them for a couple decades, and enjoy its simplicity.

Hard to pick unless it's issued

          Is'nt the 11989 the 5" in FDE?

I think the 2.0 triggers are a little better than the G17 Gen5, esp the Pro Series with the trigger stop. But they are very close. Personally I just don't care for the "wrap around your finger" trigger on the M&P.

Most aggreed that the Smith has better ergo and grip texture.

Gen 5 Glocks have better metal finish and are easier to work on.

For irons I love the stock Ameriglo option on the Glocks.

Smith has a better optics-ready package with Suppressor sights.

My M2.0 fits in my hands more comfortably and more naturally than Glocks.

I plan on picking up a 4.25 CORE 2.0 LE model shortly. It's supposed to have the pro sear. I haven't seen anything about a different trigger block.

I use the m&p 1.0 as a duty carry and my backup is a m&p 2.0 3.6 in my pocket. Sometimes if i am lazy I qual 10-15 points higher with perfect scores on the little gun. Its the trigger. The old trigger feels on every reset as if you're flicking a yogurt cup. The new one is much better in terms of positive reset and a more defined break.

The little built in over-travel stop where the trigger meets the frame:

That's been in them since the 1.0s.

Just checked my old 1.0...it's there towards the bottom. Have an Apex kit on this one and forgot it was there

I love my 2.0, I put an Apex trigger in it and some extended controls. I appreciate Glock for what they are but M&P is a better gun imo. It's really all personal preference.

I use the M&P 2.0 9mm as my duty gun. It fits really well in my hand and I like how grippy the frame is. I don't have to worry about losing my grip no matter how sweaty my hands are.

Opinions vary as you can see! I carried the M&P 1.0 for a while and went to a Glock Gen 4. I bought the M&P 2.0 and it is a nice improvement from the 1.0 but I never warmed up to it as a carry gun.

As of now the Glock Gen 5 17 is the duty gun and I find it to be nearly perfect for my needs as a lefty. I am sticking nowadays to 3 carry guns, the 17, 19, and 26, all Gen 5 and bone stock.
