on the 27th a Nevada Highway Patrol Sergeant stopped to check on a motorist. The motorist shot and killed the SGT, stole his uniform and patrol vehicle then fled.

Didn't even hear about that one; wow. Seems like quite a few OIS this weekend across the US; always sad that hateful people can't find more constructive ways to deal with their own demons and problems. That incident is unfortunately the perfect example when people wonder why cops often seem to be on guard no matter the age of the person they are dealing with or the reason for the contact.

As for the OP; it seems a little odd only two detectives went to talk to the scumbag if they really thought he was their man for a not that long ago armed robbery. Not that it would have necessarily changed how it devolved into a gun fight but just surprising because they certainly didn't seem to have all corners covered, extra cover at the front door, etc. Glad they survived.
