‘Officers are scared out there’: Coronavirus hits US police

WEST BLOOMFIELD, Mich. (AP) — More than a fifth of Detroit's police force is quarantined; two officers have died from coronavirus and at least 39 have tested positive, including the chief of police.

This’ll happen in LA where you can’t buy a gun to defend yourself.

All these anti-gun idiots may find out the line of bs their anti-gun politicians (who have armed body guards) sold them if we start getting higher crimes due to lack of supplies and longer police response times due to COVID19 staffing. I always laugh at the fact they think cops will magically get transported to their location if they call 911. I left my parents with a good alternative, a big can of pepper spray.

            A good alternative?

Pepper spray is a great alternative for them, since they don't know how to handle firearms. My dad was a soldier back in the 50's and he was enlisted, so he only carried an M1 Garand and an M1 Carbine. If I was to leave a pistol at the house, Dad says he hasn't shot one and he isn't proficient on one. Mom has never fired even a BB gun.

Pistols in the hands of untrained individuals is a recipe for disaster. That's why we in the military say the most dangerous thing is a second Lieutenant with a map and the second most dangerous thing is a second lieutenant with a 1911.

I suppose I could have taken them to the range before, but people in their 80's arent really into learning firearms.

                Pass on OC.

Have always and will continue to push a rifle onto someone who is looking for a great self defense weapon. I can hand my rifle over to any one, tell them how to flip the safety off, and they’ll be able to hit the target with ease. Put a legit self defense round like the Speer Gold Dot LE round my agency uses and they wouldn’t have to worry about over penetration like they would with a shotgun or pistol if they were to miss.

The first responders are definitely in a precarious situation right now.
I also read of the two Riverside deputies who died.
My prayers go out to them all to be safe.

I just saw LAPD officers riding in a pack of bicycles, at least 10 officers, half did not have masks on. I guess it varies by department. At least they were getting exercise.

Lets not forget the forgotten, out of sight, out of public eye, thankless job of all the deputies and correctional officers working custody stuck in germ infested Petri dishes for their entire shifts walking housing units, entering cells, doing cell searches, in super close proximity where classification of inmates and medical staff will miss many infected inmates.
The left - "You don't need guns. Police will protect you."
Also The Left - "Police are racist and evil and we need to disband them."
