Former state Assemblyman Doug LaMalfa, who sponsored the legislation renaming the stretch of SR-16 in Andy's honor, said he had been looking forward to the occasion, but with "mixed feelings."

Nonetheless, "I'm sure he's smiling looking at this," LaMalfa said.

"Andy Stevens was a kind and honorable man, who loved his country, his job and his community," LaMalfa had written in the resolution that called for renaming the highway. "Although he will forever be missed, his life and contributions will never be forgotten. Naming a highway after our fallen hero is just one small way we can thank Andy for everything he did for California."

Passed in August 2008, the resolution officially renamed the stretch of State Route 16 between County Road 98 and Interstate 505 to "CHP Officer Andrew 'Andy' Stevens Memorial Highway."

Andy was a good man.
I remember working the search and investigation that followed his murder, seems like it was yesterday.

To many have paid the ultimate price. I have burried five good friends in the past 9 years here in Northern CA. Not as many as in some other areas, but one is to many...

May 15 is National Peace Officer's Memorial Day... take a moment that day to remember all of our brothers and sisters who've fallen.

Friday May 8 will mark this year's enrollment ceremony at the California Memorial in Sacramento. Ten officers lost in 2009 will be enshrined, along with nine other officers whose cases have been discovered.

I have a rubbing of a name that appears on the wall in Sacramento, and one of the same name on the memorial in D.C. Someone I went to the academy with.

We never forget.
