Is there any California specific regulations stating the lower must be marked as a pistol? Did a PPT last week and I was just informed by the lgs that the DOJ is asking them to hold the lower, stating that the lower should have never been registered as a semi-auto pistol. The lgs made reference to the lower not being marked "pistol". The lower is a Aero M4E1 and was registered as a exempt handgun sale of a semi-automatic pistol, frame/receiver only. Idon't have anything in writing or further clarification at this time.Comment

No.. It can be marked Nuke. The issue might be if the person you purchased it from originally had it DROSd as a long gun.Is there any California specific regulations stating the lower must be marked as a pistol? I've transferred AR lowers to people several times either to LEO exempt or via PPT to regular folks. Has not been an issue so far.UG Imports - Fremont, CA FFL - Transfers, New Gun Sales

The buyer was exempt? (LEO)Comment

All the selections do is pre-fill in some fields. So an Exempt Gun selection can be used for transactions such as:
* LEO (off-roster stuff)
* Interstate Intrafamily (off-roster stuff)
* Single Shot Pistols (such as Thompson Contender or new built SSE AR pistols or race guns)
Now WHO you transfer those to is what the human FFL has to deal with with keeping paperwork for audit.
E.g., anyone can receive the last 2 bullets. But the 1st bullet obviously I'd have some additional documentation noting agency, etc.. and typically LEO will have an FSC exemption as well.UG Imports - Fremont, CA FFL - Transfers, New Gun Sales

Correct. Come audit time if they ask about it and then you have no backup docs that the person was an LEO or that it was otherwise legal (intrafamilial transfer for example) then you'd be in violation.UG Imports - Fremont, CA FFL - Transfers, New Gun Sales
