I'm a fed and moved to CA not long ago.
I'd like to buy two handguns that aren't on the roster. One is readily available around the US and the price is more or less the same online (for non-CA residents). But occasionally one of the big online stores will put it on sale.
The other is a little more obscure and a little more expensive, and price can vary online depending on supply and demand. At least that's my theory. Currently it's sold out at most of the big online dealers and the shops that seem to have it are selling it for a few hundred more than just a few months ago. I suspect when the importer gets a new shipment in and they get distributed out to the retailers the price will fall again and there will be sales.
Do gun shops that sell off-roster to LEOs go through their dealer/distributor and essentially charge you a markup on what it costs them? Or do you find the pistol you want and have the CA gun store order it from the out-of-state shop and then pay a transfer fee to the CA gun shop?
In short, does it pay to shop around at gun stores? Will it pay for me to wait for a sale from the online sellers? Or is that irrelevant to the price I'll end up paying.
I'm in LA.
Thanks.
