    Cliques

Years ago when I went through training at S.T.A.R. as a PA recruit one of the training staff Deps. told us he was a Lynwood Viking and even showed a select few of us his ankle tat.

Were the Vikings one of the more prominent cliques in LASD and how many others were/are there?

There is a renewed focus on intra-agency cliques lately and I'm curious just how prevalent they really are.

The Vikings were a legend in their own minds. They never existed.

Interesting since the Vikings have their own Wiki page. Seems like there's some underlying truth there somewhere.

Anyone can create a Wiki page, I think. I have seen the tattoos before, but never thought much about it. Many officers/deputies have their station tattoos.

So, it's more of a bonding/brotherhood thing and showing respect and pride in your patrol station and not nearly as menacing and nefarious as the MSM makes it out to be. That's kind of what I thought.

What micro911 said about wiki pages.

Here is the opening sentence from that wiki.
The Lynwood Vikings were a white supremacist gang in Los Angeles, based at the Lynwood station of the L.A. County Sheriff's Department, whose members were deputy sheriffs in the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department (LASD).[1] Its members have included Paul Tanaka, deputy Sheriff and LASD second-in-command to Lee Baca.[1]
            What an oxymoronically asinine statement.

White Supremacist gang. Then lists a short Japanese guy as member.

I know one LAS Dep that has a Viking [Lynwood], and grim reaper [Lennox] tat, one on each ankle.

He's black, and one of the nicest fellas you could ever meet.

So when I read crap like that, knowing that the Vikings included Blacks and Asians. Their credibility, as to factual accuracy hits the bottom of the outhouse with a resounding "plop".

So much stuff has been made up about the Vikings that the truth is hidden deeply. Every station had a mascot. Industry Station was a running mustang since there were a lot of ranches and horse property in the Station area when it was opened in the 60’s. Somehow, a horse just doesn’t sound as racist as a Viking, which had plenty of non white members.

One of my partners had a Viking tattoo and was one of the nicest people I worked with. I'm Jewish and not once did he make any anti Semitic remarks. In fact, our families had dinner together, my family swam in their pool and our sons were friends. We worked at a station other than Lynwood.
