    Altama OTB Maritime

Anyone have these shoes/boots? I'm heavily considering getting a pair of these. I keep hearing great things about them. Just want to hear some more opinions about them.

I just keep going back and forth with the sizing.

Wore danners for years. Best looking boot in my opinion. But lately, they really started to tear up my left pinky toe. Not sure why all of a sudden. Moved on to some rocky jump boots and feel a lot better.

I should’ve ckarified. They’re not for duty; just for off duty, walking around, etc.

Pryde, when you say it runs small, what size did you end up getting? I’m a 10.5 in sthletic shoes which fit me pretty well, 10 in dress shoes, and wear 9.5 in Chucks.

The sizing can be tricky if you're a half size- they also offer wide size variety now. I'm normally 10.5, everyone says order up a size (like the guy above)- it was too long for me... My replacement 10s are arriving Friday. I'll report back how they size out for me. I suggest buying from tactical gear dot com. They have all the sizes and colors and at the best prices I found. They've been great handling the wrong size order also. They do regular sales, so if you're patient you'll get a good deal... Unless you have a secret purchase spot (must share if so)

Danners were great boots 20 years ago but there are much better options now that lighter boots can be made equally durable.

I used to think like you but after wearing light weight boots for the past 3 years, putting on danners is like strapping bricks to my feet.
It must just be me, but I feel like I have running shoes on without them.

No, not just you. Me too. That’s what I love about lightweight boots. I don’t feel I’m being weighed down anymore than I have to be. I had some fairly standard 5.11 duty boots. Not as heavy as the Danners, but definitely heavier than any of my subsequent boots. Once I went to lightweight boots (i.e. Nike, Under Armour, etc.), I never turned back.

I’m on the Salomons now and I’m liking them so far.

I’ve been contemplating a pair for a while. I’m torn between them and a pair of Salomon Forces. I have had a pair of Acadias since I cleared FTO, I’m about due for some new soles.

I bought a pair of Nike I forgot the name but their lightweight tactical boot with the free run sole... they didn’t make it through SWAT school with me. Complete garbage boots, those and the under armor Valasetz, save your money.

Nike SFB. Just came out with a new one too. I agree; I was very disappointed with mine. They’re in my trunk right now as an “emergency” boot.

The Valsetz are a much better boot, but they won’t last super long. Most sneaker styled boots will only last maybe two years depending on how you treat them. It’s a trade off.

Again, these Altamas are not for duty use. Strictly off duty.

Salomon Forces are really nice. I’m liking them a lot. It’s kind of weird though. I tried on some similar Salomons at REI in my size and they fit great. The XA Forces fit just a hair bigger. I’m almost thinking I could’ve gone with a 10 rather than 10.5, but the difference isn’t huge.
