Some time ago (maybe a little over a year?) they came and gave us a demo/presentation and were supposed to give us a few units to do some further testing & eval - AFAIK, nobody ever received anything afterwards (big first strike there). Personally, I feel that it's got a pretty limited application range (situations wherein it could be useful or effective, not talking about distance) - IMO, it's definitely Not as utile or practical as they think it is. At the time, it didn't seem like they had tested it on anyone really resisting or fighting. One or more of them thought it would be reasonable to use and effective against an assaultive suspect armed with a knife, I laughed at that (even if the suspect with a knife wasn't assaultive and was just standing there, I'd still laugh at the people who believe it would be effective to nullify the potential threat...)Comment

Just wait for it to shoot too high wrapping around the guy's neck. Then people will cry about why police are strangulating people.Comment

Thoughts?
Samuelx, I definitely agree, this could potentially be an additional tool where Taser or OC, or some other force option would be used. But a combative suspect armed with a weapon of any kind would necessitate another level of force where this device would be ineffective and even create a more dangerous contact for officers.Comment

These are my thoughts as well. It looks super cool, but I doubt it will impact police uses of force the way they claim it will. Some time ago (maybe a little over a year?) they came and gave us a demo/presentation and were supposed to give us a few units to do some further testing & eval - AFAIK, nobody ever received anything afterwards (big first strike there). Ehh, I agree with most of the sentiment. I’m pretty skeptical. Deploy that around a fleeing subject’s legs and they trip and fall, how or would that solve injury related lawsuits against a department by the subject’s family? It doesn’t.
The last clip of the officer getting the wrap around his legs, he was standing with his legs slightly apart. I don’t believe it’s self adjusting and all that officer would have to do is give himself slack in the wrap and step right out. Same with the wrap around the upper body/arms. A subject standing with his/her arms up with a knife in hand. Wrap the legs up. What if the subject doesn’t drop the knife. Like others have pointed out, you still have to go hands on or deploy another tool for pain compliance.
This job is requires force to be used. No getting around that.Comment

Rather use a Taser... this will probably have to deployed with the some guidelines anyway; why bother with this thing? Taser/bean bag/K9 for distance, baton/hands on for close in less than lethal work... LEO's have enough crap to cart around as it is.Stay classy, CGF and Calguns.Originally posted by bwiese[BTW, I have no problem seeing DEA Agents and drug cops hanging from ropes, but that's a separate political issue.]Comment

While this device sounds like a great tool.
It may really be opening the agency up to some serious litigation.
Since it uses a 9mm blank to fire the bolo.
Imagine if you will.. You have a cover officer from another agency and you. You draw your bolo-device and deploy it.
Just as you do another officer shows up and hears the gunshot and fires also.
Your cover officer also shoots because he hears another gun shot and sympathically fires also.
We know that CAN happen.
Bystanders see you draw a device on the suspect who is unarmed and then they hear a gunshot and see the suspect fall.
You and other officers immediately move in to restrain the suspect who is now on the ground..The bystanders see numerous officers pile on top of a just shot suspect. The photos themselves would be epic.
So in theory it sounds great..but practically it may not be so wonderful.Comment
