    Question for LEOs

I'd like to ask how to get my pistol back from the busy gunsmith?

I left my 1911 with a gunsmith for some action work, ambi-safety, and new sights. This fella is fairly well known and therefore busy. I knew it might be a two to three month wait so I waited then called to check the repair status. The pistol wasn't ready. I waited another month and called again. Same story, I'm patient but it's been six months and six calls. The gunsmith hasn't answered or returned my last two calls; one last week, one this week.

This gunsmith is highly recommended on this site so I'm surprised by being put off. I Don't think it's a good idea to just show up at their place of business, which is secured, and demand my pistol. Comments appreciated.

Why not (besides the obvious potential burning of a bridge if they are a great gunsmithing place)?

Why are you asking on CG? Tell the GS you want your property back and set up a date and time to go get it. You would pay for all services done as mentioned up to that point.

I asked the question on CG because in the last five years I've read a deal of good advice on CG about any firearms related topic. If I posed the question on the wrong forum, then I stand corrected.

By way of explanation I'd rather not make a ninety minute one way trip get my property and pay for repairs only to find out the gunsmith isn't at their business. I can't determine that fact without their answering or returning calls. The last conversation indicated my pistol was done except for live firing it. That was about a month ago. It was the same answer a month before that. In any case, thanks for the feedback.

As others have noted, this is a non-legal issue based on what you've stated thus far.

Try posting in the local regional forum. There may be other folks with your similar situation that may know what's going on.

          Good luck.

You were already told on a thread you started in another part of the forum that this is not a law enforcement matter, but a civil matter.

What other thread did I start about this question? What other part of the forum did I post it? Do you search my posts more than I do? I asked my question here and I've been schooled it's the wrong question. Lesson learned. Input appreciated.

Thanks forum LEOs for being patient even though I posted my question in the wrong place. I have great respect for law enforcement. I was a firefighter for over 30-years and worked closely during that time with various LEOs, who were often on scene at fires and other calls before the fire department. Sometimes LEOs provided protection so we could get our job done. My hat's off to you.

6 months in nothing for a "busy, well know gunsmith." I'm sorry you wern't told this upfront. If you like his work, wait. If not, go pick it up.

Joe, no worries, brother. You folks always have ice cream in the freezer and clean bathrooms when it's needed.

Hes answered 4 or 6 calls not "never returned"

the last two calls were within 7 days. I would not call that poor customer service. Dude is probably busy, and has told the OP that.

I don't necessarily want to make a long story longer on the LEO forum. I'd say everything has worked out thanks to another Calguns member.
