So here we go! My polygraph is on Saturday for a sheriff office I am applying to. So far so good through out my process. I know honesty is key and that's what I intend to do. Any of you seasoned professionals have any stories regarding polygraph? Or what to expect? I am scheduled to be there for 2 hours. I am beyond excited and just a little bit nervous of course.

You already know all the answers to the questions you are gonna be asked; you will do fineStay classy, CGF and Calguns.Originally posted by bwiese[BTW, I have no problem seeing DEA Agents and drug cops hanging from ropes, but that's a separate political issue.] -
Thanks guys. I am looking forward to getting through the process and receiving a conditional offer. I am thankful for all of my references that spoke so highly of me. Most of my references were people that I manage at my work. Even my grumpy pants manager gave me a great reference. Thanks to all of you who have given me great advice and motivation.Comment

Thanks guys. I don't see a problem with thread. I'm not asking for how to "beat" the test. Simply want to get a little bit of insider info on what I'm getting into. I don't intend to "cheat" the test, or try to anyways. I have been honest and will continue to do so. If asked what have I done to get myself ready I will answer that as well.Comment

POLY have no real scientific value, which is why they are admissible in court..never made sense that they use of LEO interviews
It is all subjective from the person conducting the test. If he/she "feels" that you conducted research they may grill you longer, or so

Had a buddy of mind 1st gen mex/American wanted to go to college could not afford it. Joins the Marine Corps prior to 911. Deplys to Iraq in the initial push and was also involved in The Battle of Fallujah II. Deploys to Afghanistan. Needless to say he lost of friend saw many of them gravely injured.
After 10 years on over 6 deployments he gets decided to get out. While still active duty he applies for x agency. During the polygraph the tester begins to ask him why he joined the Marines. He gave his Answer, interviewer replied that is bull**** and you know it. My buddy gets rattled from this.
He asked what? The interviewer demands to know the real answer, he replied I wanted to go to school but now I have a family and going to school is not going to pay the Bill's need a job. The interviewer replies that she is full of **** and the real reason he joined was so he can get military training and go back to mexico and work for the cartels. The reason why he wants a LEO spot is so he can be an enforcer and run drugs.
My buddy just smirks and says you get this from your machine? Okay, the man kept trying to make him change his answer.
Long story but again it's all subjective.

I can't speak to the Sheriff poly, but my 'black-suit' poly was pretty weird. They asked me to purposely lie to set a baseline, and through-out the ordeal they cocky young operator was trying to get my blood pressure up through various mechanisms. For example, he asked me a question, then suddenly left the room for five minutes. He asked me to place some items in my pocket on the desk for no reason. I ended up doing fine but was obviously annoyed, which is what I think they were after.Comment
