    Quick question about 870 Police

Are all Remington 870 Police models able to shoot 3" magnums? I'm asking for a friend. I found his dream setup with rifle sights, wood stock, and extended tube. Thank you for your time and consideration.

It should be on the barrel. There are quite a few older guns out there that only have 2 3/4 inch chamber's.

Remington recently ran out of "M" serial numbers. The new Pmax 870s end in X I believe.

All 870 police shotguns are “magnum” receivers. But you must look at the barrrel. It might be an aftermarket barrel of 2 3/4” instead of a 3” chamber. If the receiver says 870P or the serial number ends in “M”, you’re good. Part 2 however is to verify the chamber size on the barrel itself. If it doesn’t say “3” or “3 inch magnum,” you can only safely shoot 2 3/4”.

I have an 870 Police Magnum with a regular bead sight and it says 2 3/4" or 3". Best bet is to check the barrel.
