LASD; Model 15?

Hello all,

I figure this is a shot in the dark, but I'll give it a try.

My friend just retired after 34.5 years (Class 220).

He, to his now regrets, did not get his Model 15 when we converted over to Berettas.

He still wants a model 15, preferably an LASD one.

Anyone here with a lowdown on one, or one they want to get rid of?

Like I said, shot in the dark, but gotta try.

I don't believe he is roster exempt any longer is he still in CA? I have seen model 15's in SoCal gun auction houses I know OCA has one in next auction I remember seeing one on one of their previous auctions too that was LASD marked but ironically was not available for CA purchase.

You can also do the single action exemption thing to get one in to CA depending how much trouble you're ant to go through to get one.

Oh, definitely that route, but also looking more along PPT at this point too.

Found one for him, but it was LAPD (per seller's belief), but I think he's also open to any Mod15 at this point. Lol.

The LASD Model 15s are really hard to find. I purchased mine and will never sell it. It is a great shooter.

Are LASD guns of that era marked?

I have an LASD S&W 15-2 that came from a former bailiff. While the gun has her name on sticky tape on the butt. I do not see any LASD markings. Might it be under the Hogue Mono Grip?

P.S. Gun was a gift from a dear friend and won't be sold for that reason and it shoots very well.

My model 67 is stamped L.A.S.D. on left side under the cylinder. Beretta 92FS and S&W M&P9 were not marked. Ithaca model 37 shotgun was not marked either except a tape with a number on the bottom of the receiver.

^^. Same as I recall too. Never saw any special markings. I think he just wants the 15. He got his beretta, M&P and an Ithaca in the raffle. I already contacted logistics and they don’t have anymore.

Was able to find some Model 10’s from Santa Barbara PD that are nice, but he’s still hard set on a 15 (definitely don’t blame him).

Some were marked “LASD” with a number on the side plate under the cylinder, some were not. Mine is marked. OP, try gunbroker. An active LEO can still get one shipped from out of state.

I was the second academy class that they issued a NEW model 67. After I graduated, I carried a model 586. So, although my revolver fired several hundred LRN bullets, it still looks new.

6" model 586 with a Hoyt holster..A good combination.

The LASD M15 can be fired DA and SA. The LAPD M15 was 'neutered' and is DA only. That is one way to tell. The CDCR M15 went on sale recently and a dealer had one in Moreno Valley but only for 'out-of-state' sale only. Its gone now.

Sold the ones I had a couple years ago. A 2" Model 10 4" Model 15 and Model 60. A friend who was Custody Deputy at Industry Station sold them for a retired friend of his. I bought them all when he said $150 for the lot. None were marked LASD so I don't know if these were ones he bought personally.

I don't know when LASD started issuing M0del 15's but some of them are C&R's. The Model 15-2 was introduced in 1961. So many are roster exempt. There are a good number of 15-2's on Gunbroker which are roster exempt.

Finding a LASD marked one would probably be next to impossible. Maybe get a unmarked one until he can find a marked one!!
