    BOP Officer here?

My Marine and former roommate buddy applied to that position and received
Best qualified with CPS and veteran status on his NOR.

He got some questions if any BOP officers from here.

    Thank you,

He wants to know if BOP officers are 6c now and are they considered federal peace officers or law enforcement officers so he can carry off duty with the ID. Etc...

BOP officers are allowed to carry under the LEOSA.

Not a Bopper, but several buddies are formers and have transferred on to other Agencies.

6c Coverage and carry of duty. Although I have heard of Wardens creating local policy excluding it (Once pulled over a BoP guy and he had his .38 special, he said his Warden only allowed off duty carry to/from work). Don't know how that was enforced?

BoP is a great way to "stop the clock" if your turning 37 and want to transfer to another Agency.

I have heard turn over rate for BOP is high compare to other federal law enforcement agencies.

I am guessing BOP is GL pay grade?

You make what you want of any job. Sit on your butt all day, boring. Shaking down, cell searches, not so boring.

A boring day at work in a maximum penitentiary is a good day.

To answer ops question, yes BOP staff are covered under LEOSA.

I did 4 years at CDC and worked in an Administrative Segregation for 1 1/2 years. A correctional officer position is nothing compared to a street cop and it is boring. If you think cell searches are the **** then good for you.

Street cop? Oh, yeah, they meet some nice people, we don't.
Street cop? Oh, there armed, we're not.
Street cop? They don't know what their up against, we kinda do.
Street cop? I live in a small town, 1 murder last year in the city, 5 in the prison

It can be boring, but a street cop is boring at time also. The job is what you want it to be. We, as I am sure street cops do, prefer it to be boring.

Working Administrative Segregation 1 1/2 years? I worked Disciplinary Segregation for 5.

Personally, being on the street or being in a penitentiary, it's all the same. We don't run into everything they do on the street, but they don't run into everything we do inside either.

I've been in shootouts, I've had to use my weapons, but mostly, as on the street, I used my head.

Been there, done that. Great entry into other federal agencies. Plus he will be able to spot ex cons on sight. 40 years later, I still can.

CDCR is a great agency to look into. Tons of opportunities inside the gates as well as outside.(investigative services unit, canine, crisis response team, parole agent, special services unit, fugitive apprehension agent). You can work anywhere statewide, carry off duty, great benefits and salary with overtime if you want it. It can get boring but you can also make it busy for yourself.
