Hello all,
I'm at a point in my life where I am trying to figure out what career I want. I will be getting my BS in December and plan on starting a graduate program in the spring.
I wanted to go into law enforcement since 7th grade. My degree was always supposed to be a backup plan, but as I learned more, I realized that I actually liked what I study. So now I am stuck between choosing to be a LEO or pursuing a career in-line with my degree (the ideal career for this route is with the federal government).
I feel like becoming a reserve officer/deputy is a good balance so I can be in both fields, but find it difficult to figure out how I could actually become one. Which leads me here with a few questions:
1) As a full-time student with a part-time job, I wouldn't be able to attend a full time academy. I've seen some things about modular, part-time academies. I know Rio Hondo College has offered them in the past, but I don't think they currently do. Could anyone list POST certified academies that offer some type of part-time curriculum?
2) How do people actually manage to attend these part time academies? I think even if I found one, my schedule is too busing for me to attend. But even over summer when I worked full time, I doubt I would have been able to attend a part-time academy, unless I worked very close to the academy.
3) This all leads me to think I won't be able to attend an academy until I finish school and get a more stable work schedule. However, at that point I will possibly be working anywhere in the US. Does anyone know if other states have similar requirements/options for reserve officers as California does?
Thanks in advance for any help.
