Interesting. I have no issue with a weapon mounted camera. These things are always marketed as "This will tell the story". The unfortunate fact is that this one camera may often not tell the whole story.

For instance, the recent shooting in Huntington Beach. This product would only have captured the part where the officer shoots the suspect, not the assault and fight that occurred prior to it. The fact is that to really have video of almost any situation we need a weapon mounted light, a body cam, a vehicle camera, and probably a drone that flies around following each officer every day.

The Calibre Press article makes it sound like the camera and light come on automatically but it appears to be just the camera. I certainly would not want a light coming on automatically.

I mean the camera is not a terrible idea but....I dunno it seems redundant. The problem with most of these sooting situations is what untrained civilians have to say about the moments that led up to the shooting and weather or not they justified the ends.

I wear a body cam in my line of work but I have some personal issues with my cam. For example I can not quick record. I have to have it on and the battery only lasts 8 hours with it on in sleep mode. Then if I want to record I need to hit the the record button twice. Once to take it out of sleep and once to start recording. It's an epic pain. So I'm going to be changing body cams soon.

It would seem to me that the problem can be solved with a good body cam. Far as lights go I pack a TLR-1 with strobe and since I work swing and grave I find that the strobe feature is pretty effective.

I agree. The video often does not clear up any controversy at all. Or at least doesn't for some. It gives additional fuel to the people who have no related knowledge or experience to start spouting their theories though...

I for one think its a horrible idea. It will never tell even most of the story much less the whole story. Only the part where the gun gets drawn and fires. What if you draw and fire immediately, thats only a fraction of a fraction of the story and will cause nay sayers to be even more up in arms than they already are.

Weapon cameras are a bad idea. And that doesn't include the fact it will make your firearm heavier and the battery life on the camera will be for ****. So if you do have it, and it doesn't activate (for any number of reasons) it'll just make the nay sayers point a finger at you accusing you of purposefully ruining it to hide your actions.

The bottom line is you would need multiple cameras from all angles to even come close to catching everything. And even if you have video like the North Hollywood shootout there will be people that scream that it is unjustified and are not willing to listen.

In my experience cameras protect officers more often than not. I'm fine with cameras, it's the people without a clue and with no interest in learning I could do without.

Could not possibly agree more. The amount of crap I get accused of every single day is staggering. If I had a buck for every time I'm accused of something by someone with absolutely no idea what their talking about....I would have a great trip to a strip club.

My cam is optional gear in my line of work, but I see it as important as my vest, and I like it for any time I have to 602 or go hands on or anytime I'm dealing with anyone's property and especially when I'm dealing with minors.
