    Background check info

I recently went thru the hiring process for an out of state leo job and everything was going smooth but something turned up on my background.

I do not have a criminal record and because of confidentiality I was told they could not release the information they found.

It's there a way I can do a background check on myself? I want to apply for other departments but if this continues to come up, I am sure it will be the same result.

Probably nothing as thorough as what was done. Keep in mind there are other things that can disqualify you besides a criminal history.

Other things can DQ you besides criminal issues. The investigators will go out to your neighborhood, your job, your school and maybe even your church to ask about you. Your habits, yout personality, your morals and ethics may be discussed. If you have several people saying the same negative thing about you like "he loves to party and get drunk", or perhaps several coworkers told them that you have cut corners or perhaps had taken stuff from work, these things could be problems. Also, letters are sent to your friends and aquintances. They will usually ask them to give two or three other friends that may know you. They will contact them and see what they say. Lots if things can get you. Good luck.

Same thing happened to me a while ago, a record came up to a city in Arizona. They told me it was just a police record. I tripped out because I've never been to Arizona in my life! Lol

Do you do anything about it?

Captmike: I understand a reference could put you in a bad light. But i thoroughly vetted my references and they gave me feedback after they received their calls and all was well.

Unfortunately, "something" in the background process can mean a number of things since they don't have to tell you what that "something" is: medical issues, moral/ethical issues, background stuff you left out, background and/or hiring staff doesn't like you, you aren't the appropriate race/gender for a hiring goal, etc

Every department is different. Just because you were DQ'd from one does not mean that all will. It could be that they simply do not want to send an investigator to you from their state. I know lots of guys that were DQ at some but eventually hired by another. I would only tell you that it was a problem if you did something like you were addicted to some drug or you were addicted to theft. If nothing like thay has happened, just keep applying. Giod luck.

Nope. That's exactly what I asked the background investigator if I can do anything about it or if there is any way I can get more information on how and why there was a "record" with my identity matching all the way down to my social in a state I've never set foot before. She just had to take my word for it. To this day I still don't know how and why there is a police record of me in Arizona.

My son in law was DQ'd by riverside county sheriff. They said he was being untruthful on the polygraph. He had a squeaky clean background. Also, I let him marry my daughter.

Within two weeks he got letters from several agencies he'd applied for in the area. He applied to two agencies in Arizona and was hired very quickly. He got offers from both departments. He graduated the academy with high marks and was "Officer of the Year" last year. He has received several awards from the department over the last seven years. He loves what he does.

                    Don't give up.

I used to work with a guy that smoked weed every day. He dressed, talked and acted sharp. He got turned down because when asked about drugs he said weed. They asked how much, he said 150 times in my life. He said he lied about how many times, it was in the thousands. I said, well, if you were going to lie, why not say 3 times? I'm glad they turned him down.
