Anyone see Baca was found guilty?

I was glad to see the verdict. I'm curious to see what the sentence will be.

Lee Baca, the once powerful and popular sheriff of Los Angeles County, was found guilty Wednesday of obstructing a federal investigation into abuses in county jails and lying to cover up the interference.

If you build a man a fire, you'll keep him warm for the evening. If you set a man on fire, you'll keep him warm for the rest of his life.

All due respect, I'd rather post here than OT.

As far as him being found guilty, it's ok, he'll have forgotten about it by next week...

      What, too soon?

I'd rather not go to O/T. If a Mod feels the need, go ahead and delete this thread.

              OK, I copy and understand.

Dr. Baca was convicted on the same charges as was Mr. Tanaka (the former undersheriff). The statutory maximum sentence is 20 years, but the actual sentence is based on the federal sentencing guidelines, which apply a number of factors that are unique to the defendant.

I have to think that those factors for Dr. Baca will be very similar to the ones that were found for Mr. Tanaka. The guideline sentence for Mr. Tanaka was close to five years and his sentence was set at five years.

That would be a pretty good "guesstimate" for Dr. Baca. I could see the judge adding a little more time reflecting his added responsibility as the leader of the organization, but I doubt that you would see more that seven years at the outside.

But you never know until the judge pronounces the sentence.

                From the linked article:

Acting U.S. Atty. Sandra Brown said “this verdict sends a clear message that no one is above the law.... With a career in law enforcement, he knew right from wrong. And he made a decision that was to commit a crime … and when the time came, he lied — he lied to cover up his tracks.”

Except for the Clinton Crime Cartel.
