Hey older than me guys, revolver help please.

I started in 1998. I was issued a 4" S&W model 19 in a clamshell holster. I actually liked that set up even though a lot of guys disliked the holsters.

At that time, a lot of the old timers either carried auto pistols they had bought themselves (glock 21's were popular) or 6" K or L frame revolvers with the basket weave holster that swiveled to ride horizontal while you were in the car. I'm buying a 686+ 6" for the heck if it, was hoping one of you guys could tell me the manufacturer and model name of that old swivel type holster.

I believe Hoyt out of WA used to make a clam shell swivel holster for the 686...And I am 53 if that is older than you

Mine (1978) was "Safety Speed Holster Montebello, Cal." Black basket weave swivel, marked "44" & "6" on back. Not a "clamshell" style but regular "Border Patrol" with retention strap.

      6" S&W Model 28 Hwy Patrolman.

Check ebay and gunbroker to find pictures of the exact holster you're looking for. Chances are, you'll have to find an old one anyway.

Bucheimer and Bianchi both made swivel holsters back in the day.
Bucheimer also made a clamshell holster.

Not too many police holster makers back then. Safariland, Bianchi, Hoyt, and Safety Speed were the most popular.

Hoyt holster were out of Coupville, WA. But they have closed the doors and are not longer in business.

Hoyt holsters were breakfront and had different length shanks so the pistol grip would be at hand level..if you wanted.
