    Statistics.....

I was going through some boxes of papers and stuff from my career...In one of them I found a paper from my department file which listed my activity stats during my career.

My former department kept very good records of stats each year, and you would get a copy during your annual evaluation.

At my retirement party they had posted a list of my stats during my 29 years as an officer...

It's mind boggling how they add up.

    Here were the stats.

    Calls handled...........27,675
    Calls/stops assisted..35,151
    Arrests.....................3,217
    Cites........................8,859
    Reports...................10,332
    Traffic stops.............17,808
    Miles driven...........478,660
    Work days.................5,597

It should be noted that I worked a task force for three years, and the stats for those three years (other than work days) are not included.

During those three years I drove over 60,000 miles....and worked at least 900 hours of over time each year.

Also I worked 5-8's for about 15 years, 4-10's for about 5 years, and 3-12's for 9 years...

No wonder We have back problems.....

    That is really awesome.

Having a hernia between L5/S1, our profession needs to re-think our Sam Brown duty belt setups. I personally think the thin padded HSGI belts with a suspender under a vest carrier is the way to go.

While you are counting, maybe you could add a few more categories:
        Commendations
        Complaints
        Use Of Force
        Shootings
        Traffic accidents
        Funerals
        Injuries
        Lives Saved/Taken.
        Lives Changed, turned around.
        Mentored/Trained.
        Etc.

Or the most important statistic in my opinion, total hours not spent with my family.

At least with my department, I've learned you're just a number whether you are well liked or just a nobody when you retire. Next day someone else fills your spot and the machine keeps on going.
