Northern California Academies

Hello,

I am currently applying to four police academies in northern cali. Does anyone have any opinions of or experience with Butte, San Joaquin, Napa, or Redwood's police academies?

I've heard that the one down in fresno and stockton are pretty good (this is coming from turlocks police department). They said they had luck with recruits from there.

I went to Butte. It had good structure and solid instruction. I have a bit of experience with different academies working in the hiring division of our department for a bit. If by San Joaquin you are referring to Delta College? It's a joke, we prefer to steer clear of recruits coming out of this academy unless the recruit has some life experience (military etc). It is lacking in just about every aspect... Feel free to PM me with questions.

You may also want to consider the Sacramento region. SRPSTC's instructors are mostly Sac PD and receive the same instructors from SPD's RBC. They are a year round, continuous academy.

There is also Sierra, but they stop at Module II.

I know that Yuba has all 3 modules and just started theirs again, but I am unsure of what the current state is like.

Other considerations are applying as a non-affiliate to local SO's. Sac SO offers this.
