Hello, looking into OCSD to possibly making a lateral move. Heard good things about the department. If there is any OC deps on this board, please let me know, or if anyone has any info, please feel free to share. Thank you!

Good agency. It has just about every assignment in local LE and many can be held for a career (motor, detectives,...etc). They handle most (all?) city law enforcement for south county (south of Irvine). Those stations have the feel of a similar sized city. Due to upcoming retirements, there will be some nice upward mobility in the near future.
OCSD's pay and benefits are in general alignment with other OC agencies. There will be a few departments that pay more and a few that pay less but most are comparable. The differences tend to come in the specialty pay, OT/call-back/standby types of pay. Your situation determines if those items are significant. OCSD has all the budget issues that any agency has.
Keep in mind you'll do custody time when you start. How much depends on the patrol list. The recruiters will have a handle/prediction on the current time frame. That could be rough if you are use to patrol.Last edited by mixicus; 01-17-2017, 6:52 AM. -

Great, now I gotta go look up 26, what is that- Costa Mesa? I know Brea is 22.
And 10 had to be a county agency.Comment

As for the OCSD, there was a former deputy on the California fire board that left the agency after several years. He told me he was NOT happy there. Your experience might differ and he is only one person, I'm just putting it out there.Comment

Yes, that is correct. I knew it was a different agency.
Just FYI- Each city police and fire departments were separated by 40. So HBPD was Station 42 and HB Fire was 82, etc.

I do still remember my Instructors; Inv. B. Stanley, Sgt K. Chism, Dep. H. Strand, Dep. T. Tucker, RSO B.Mercer and Dep. D. Fowlkes.
Thank yous to these guys for taking the time and taking us- civilian students- seriously and getting us prepared for our future LE Academy training and careers.
