    Odd encounter

Before I start asking my question, I'd like to thank all of you LEO's for your service. Here's my story, this afternoon I just finished seeing my client and was heading back to my office. I got on my old toyota van parked at the curb of the street and I was about to put it to drive. Then there was this guy drove up and blocked me in the spot I parked at (there were cars in front and behind me) for about 10 seconds, then he drove up for about 30 ft, made his car sideways and blocked off the street. I got out of the parking spot at this point and thought this guy probably just drove into the wrong street and trying to made a u-turn. It was then he pulled out his phone and took a picture of my van. He then drove off to the same direction I was going. I was able to catch up with him at stop sign at the end of the street. I rolled down my window and asked him politely if there was any problem. But he was just saying random gibbish that doesn't make any sense whatsoever. I gave up talking to him after about 45 seconds and went on to an intersection. He parked his car and watched me as I was waiting for the light for about 2 minutes. He did not follow me. I called the local police as I reached my office about 30 minutes later but they said there is nothing they can do.

I am pretty sure I did not touch his car at any point. I never saw this guy before and I don't know if he was under influence either.

My question is, what can he do with that picture with my plate# ? Or is there anything I should be worry about? My coworker said she heard people committed Fasttrack fraud with other people's plate# before. Thank you for your time.

Are you a Scientologist and have been declared an SP?

          Could be a private investigator

          Cheating on your wife?
          Defraud your employer?
          In a child support battle?
Any other numerous possible reasons for a PI to be investigating you?

          Just food for thought

To answer the question, there is not a lot he can do with a picture of the plate. Ca's privacy laws have made it difficult for someone to get info on people with just a plate number. Not to sure how someone would tie someone else's plate to a Fastrack or what purpose it would serve.

As for what he was doing, I gave up a long time ago trying to figure out a reason for the crap people do.

Never considered the possibility of PI, but I don't see why PI would be interested in me.

A PI would be more slick. He was probably 5150 or 11550 or both. Dont put too much thought into it. There is basically nothing he can do with that picture of your plate. The types of skiptracing databases he would need access to and the money he would have to pay would be quite high just to figure out who you were. Id go on with your life and not worry.

                  Odd encounter

I do agree that a PI would be less conspicuous and wouldn't have acquired your plate the way he did

But If the PI has your plate and the vehicle is registered to you he can find out a lot about you.

More than you would want anyone to ever know

But if the vehicle is not registered to you than there is nothing much that would link to you unless you also live at the residence the vehicle is registered to.

And by the way it would cost the PI just a few dollars per search to find all of this out

If he is a licensed PI he will or at least should have access to DMV records and can search your plate in seconds

That is just the tip of the iceberg
