    New Year's Eve

Everyone be safe tonight. When I worked patrol, we were instructed to go to a fire station or park the car under a bridge at around midnight. Hope everyone has a very happy and safe new year.

Everyone stay safe tonight. At my work location, the gun shots in the surrounding neighborhood have already started. About to leave work. Happy New year my brothers and sisters.

Hey, according to the Mythbuster guys, no one can get injured or killed from falling bullets. We know different, because like me and my fellow deputies, I'm sure a lot of you were briefed about incidents were some people were injured or killed from bullets shot in the air.

We also were told to park under a bridge or go to the fire station. The latter didn't work since they were asleep by that time, so the bridge it was.

When the bullet goes straight up, it may not hurt a person as it free falls. But, if it flies at an angle, that may be a different story. You can never be too cautious.

Why a fire station? Pardon my ignorance.

Because they usually had free snacks, TV and a LA-Z-Boy chairs available at that time. Midnight and they're all tucked in bed by that time.

If I ever have another chance, I would be a fireman. I think they live a better life.

I worked a couple New Years OT's at old Fire Station 9 on Holmes. We were pulling into the station and the neighbor was standing in the front yard jacking rounds from a shotgun into the air. He waves, reloads and keeps firing. At Station 14 one year they made a plaque of bullets found in the yard on New Years day. Made a 14 about 10" tall. It might still be hanging on a wall somewhere.

True that. Hey, the only other job where you get paid to be in bed is 647b! JK, my heart goes out to all the fire/emt/para's!

The 24 hour shifts get old. That being said, ocfa stations were my go to on nights where it's best to disappear. I know there is a lot of BS between cops and fire fighters but I've always found them accommodating when I need a place to hide out
